Elkhorn, WI - Wanting to help those in need, particularly those in one's own backyard, is a timeless, American tradition - and United Way makes it easy. For those living in Walworth County, the recent move combining the United Ways of Delavan and Lake Geneva into one United Way serving all of Walworth County has helped to bring community based giving to the entire area. The new United Way of Walworth County now serves more than 40 agencies throughout the county.

Live United is the message; joining forces to fight against poverty, illness and illiteracy. It is a chance to  be part of the change. And beginning October 1st, the annual giving campaign is in progress, giving everyone the opportunity to participate in their community. The goal this year is to raise $435,000, with funds directed to these three areas of focus; education, income and health.

Donations can be accepted online at www.UW-WC.org or by mail to United Way of Walworth County, PO Box 1020, Elkhorn, WI 53121.

Last year, more than 8,000 people were supported in their educational needs through United Way's aid to agencies like VIP Services and the Walworth County Literacy Council. More than 16,400 people found financial support through local agencies such as Mary's Room, Lake Geneva Emergency Food Pantry and Community Action - Twin Oaks. And increased healthcare services were provided for more than 13,000 people through community agencies that help reduce substance abuse, provide aid for child abuse and domestic violence cases, increase health education, preventive care and much more.

A workforce campaign is another important way United Way receives donations. "Through workforce campaigns, businesses provide an important social message of giving within their company," said Vicki Jacobs, Executive Director of United Way of Walworth County. "And it is a way of giving back to the community without having to create a separate fundraising event. Employees can give in several ways; one donation or a small amount per paycheck. We make it easy to give."

Best of all, when someone give to United Way, they are actually reaching deep within the community to the places that touch their heart and answer to their own concerns. From a local library to the local food bank, everyone gets to choose exactly where their funds will go. It is this service that distinguishes United Way from other well-known service agencies, making giving a truly personal experience.

United Way of Walworth County is a non-profit agency located within the offices of Chamberlain & Henningfield on Hwy 12/67 just north of downtown Elkhorn, WI, and serving the combined communities of Delavan-Darien, Lake Geneva, East Troy, Sharon, Elkhorn, Lyons, Fontana, Williams  Bay and Walworth.
